Description
Thermory's STEP profile cladding in alder is a distinctive choice for sauna walls and feature walls, its broad grooves giving the surface an angular, sculpted rhythm. Alder is a traditional Finnish sauna timber with a light brown colour and warm pink undertones; it resists warping, repels moisture and stays comfortable in the heat. The tongue and groove boards are straightforward to fit, vertically to make a room feel wider or horizontally to add height. Each pack holds four 27 × 64 mm boards, in a choice of 2100 mm or 2400 mm lengths.

Timber
Alder is a popular choice in traditional saunas thanks to its natural qualities and low risk of twisting and warping. It has a light brown colour with warm pink undertones and a subtle scent reminiscent of freshly cut hay. Alder does not overheat and has water-repellent properties, making it well suited to hot and humid environments. See the full Alder Sauna Wood range.
Profile
The STEP profile has broad grooves for an angular, modern look. Installed vertically it helps a room feel wider; horizontally it makes a room feel taller. Its depth creates strong texture on feature walls, which lighting can enhance with contrasting shadows. More timbers in this profile: Sauna Cladding in the STEP profile.
Quality & Wastage
This is A-grade timber: durable, knot free and with a low risk of splintering. We recommend a 15% wastage allowance for alder cladding, which also covers the risk of damage in transit. As a natural product, timber shows some colour variation between packs and batches.
Installation & Care
The tongue and groove boards suit a DIY sauna build. An Installation and Maintenance Guide is available in the Downloads section on this page.
Ordering & Delivery
Shipping is calculated at checkout and varies with order size and postcode; many timber orders travel on a palletised service and may be a kerbside delivery.
