Description
Our Respect Series thermo aspen bench boards pair a stable lamellar construction with the comfort of the classic SHP profile. Each board measures 28 × 120 mm with softly rounded R4 edges, a thickness chosen to resist warping and twisting over time. The layered structure adds stability and extends the lifespan of the raw material, allowing a more flexible range of dimensions than traditional milling. Heat treatment gives the aspen a honey-brown colour, a pleasant toasted scent and a tough, rot-resistant structure that releases no resin in sauna heat. Supplied in packs of four, in 2100 mm or 2400 mm lengths, the boards suit a DIY build; alternatively, our Sauna Bench Fabrication Service can shape them into a finished bench system.

Timber
Thermo aspen is created by heat-treating the soft timber. The natural heat treatment reduces the moisture level of the wood, giving it a tough, rot-resistant structure that does not secrete resin in the high temperatures and moisture-rich environment of a sauna. The grain is straight and knot-free, with a honey-brown colouration and a pleasant toasted scent. As a natural product, timber shows some colour variation between different packs and batches. Please note that lifestyle images are for representational purposes only; the final look of the sauna will vary with the width and placement of the bench boards.
Profile
SHP is the standard timber profile for sauna bench boards: a rectangular section with radiused corners, usually R2, R3 or R4 (a 2, 3 or 4 mm radius on each edge). The radius value describes the smoothness of the board edge; these boards are R4. The 28 mm thickness is important to prevent the boards warping and twisting over time. Thanks to its lamellar structure, the Respect Series offers enhanced stability while significantly extending the lifespan of the raw material, allowing a more flexible range of dimensions than traditional manufacturing techniques.
Quality & Wastage
This Respect thermo aspen timber is A-grade: durable, knot-free and with a low risk of splintering. We recommend a wastage allowance of 15% for SHP sauna bench boards, which also accounts for any risk of damage in transit. General grading standards apply to this sauna wood; the grading rules for different sauna wood types, and our interactive Bench Board Calculator for working out quantities, are available at finnmarksauna.com. Contact us if you are unsure how much you require for your sauna build.
Installation & Care
The boards are well suited to a DIY bench build; alternatively, our Sauna Bench Fabrication Service can create your ideal sauna bench system from them. We recommend treating the sauna wood with paraffin oil, which slightly deepens the colour of the wood. Other timber choices are available in our wider SHP sauna wood bench board collection at finnmarksauna.com, depending on the overall aesthetic and style of your sauna.
Ordering & Delivery
Timber orders ship on a palletised service due to their size, and may require a kerbside drop or handballing off the freight vehicle. Costs are calculated at checkout and vary between UK Mainland, Highland and Island postcodes. Lengths up to 2400 mm ship at standard rates; beyond that, shipping costs rise significantly. If we do not stock your required length but have a longer one available, our cutting service can cut it down for a small fee: you purchase the full length and the off-cut is added to the pallet. For longer lengths, the cutting service, or advice on sizes and quantities, call +44 (0) 20 8050 2895 or email support@finnmarksauna.com.
