Description
These Thermory SHP bench boards are cut from thermo aspen, a heat-treated timber with a straight, knot-free grain, a pleasant toasted scent and a warm honey-brown colour. Thermal modification gives the wood a tough, rot-resistant structure that secretes no resin in the heat and humidity of the sauna, keeping it comfortable to sit and lean against. Each pack contains four boards measuring 28 mm thick by 140 mm wide, cut to the SHP profile: a rectangular section with R3 radiused edges that is the standard for sauna bench boards. Choose from 1800 mm, 2100 mm and 2400 mm lengths; the boards suit DIY bench builds, or we can create your ideal bench system through our sauna bench fabrication service.

Timber
Thermo aspen is created by heat-treating soft timber. The treatment reduces the moisture content of the wood, giving it a tough, rot-resistant structure that does not secrete resin in the high temperatures and humidity of a sauna. The grain is straight and knot-free, the scent pleasantly toasted and the colour a warm honey-brown. As a natural product, timber shows some colour variation between packs and batches.
Profile
SHP is the standard profile for sauna bench boards: a rectangular section with radiused corners, usually R2, R3 or R4 (a 2 mm, 3 mm or 4 mm radius on each edge). These boards carry an R3 edge. The 28 mm thickness is important to prevent warping and twisting over time.
Quality and wastage
This timber is A-grade quality, characterised by durable, knot-free boards with a low risk of splintering. We recommend a wastage allowance of 15%, which also accounts for the risk of damage in transit. Lengths of up to 2400 mm ship at standard rates, while longer lengths cost significantly more. If you need a shorter length than we stock, our cutting service can trim a longer board to size for a small fee, with the off-cut added to the pallet.
