Description
Thermory's STEP cladding makes a feature of sauna walls, with broad grooves that give the surface an angular, finely repeating rhythm. Fitted vertically it can help a room feel wider, while horizontal boards make a space feel taller, and the profile's considerable depth casts striking shadows when paired with lighting. The tongue and groove boards are easy to install, suit a DIY sauna build, and combine well with other timber profiles where you want contrast. Each pack holds four boards of thermo alder, 27 mm thick and 64 mm wide with 56 mm of effective coverage, in lengths of 2100 mm or 2400 mm. The heat-treated alder has a warm hazel-brown colour, resists warping and twisting, and will not splinter or overheat in sauna temperatures.

Timber
Thermo alder has a hazel-brown colour and a subtle texture favoured by many. Like other heat-treated timbers it carries a low risk of warping and twisting, and it will not splinter or overheat at sauna temperatures. Timber is a natural product, so some colour variation between boards, packs and batches should be expected.
Profile
STEP is a decorative profile with broad grooves for an angular, modern look. Installed vertically the finely repeating pattern helps a room feel wider; installed horizontally it makes a room feel taller. Its considerable depth creates texture on feature walls, which lighting can enhance by casting contrasting shadows in the wells between the raised sections. STEP can be combined with other timber profiles to create contrast and a unique detail in the space.
Quality & Wastage
Our thermo alder is A-grade: durable, knot-free and with a low risk of splintering. We recommend a wastage allowance of 20–25% for this cladding, which also covers the small risk of damage in transit. Our interactive cladding calculator on finnmarksauna.com can help you estimate quantities.
Installation & Care
The boards are well suited to a DIY sauna build, and the tongue and groove profile is also suitable for other interior finishes. Other timbers are available across our wider sauna wood cladding collection if you are matching an existing scheme. An Installation and Maintenance Guide is available under the Downloadable Files tab on this page.
Brand
Made by Thermory of Estonia, founded in 1997 and the world's largest manufacturer of thermally modified wood, whose fully natural heat treatment uses no chemicals.
Ordering & Delivery
Timber orders ship on a palletised service because of their size, and delivery may be kerbside with some handballing off the vehicle. Shipping is calculated at checkout and varies between UK Mainland, Highland and Island postcodes. We ship lengths up to 2400mm at standard rates; if we do not stock your required length but have a longer board available, our cutting service can cut it down for a small fee. You purchase the full length and the off-cut travels on the pallet. For longer lengths, the cutting service, or advice on sizes and quantities, call +44 (0) 20 8050 2895 or email support@finnmarksauna.com.
