Description
Thermory's SHP thermo alder bench boards bring a warm, hazel-brown surface and subtle texture to sauna seating. The SHP profile is the standard for sauna benches: a rectangular section with radiused corners, here finished with a smooth R3 (3 mm) edge, while the full 28 mm thickness keeps the boards flat and resists warping and twisting over time. Like other heat-treated timbers, thermo alder carries a low risk of warping, will not splinter and does not overheat in sauna temperatures. Boards are 140 mm wide and sold in packs of four in 2100 mm or 2400 mm lengths; we recommend a 15% wastage allowance, and our Bench Fabrication Service is available if you would rather have a bespoke bench system made for you.

Timber
Thermo alder has a beautiful hazel-brown colour and a subtle texture favoured by many. Like other heat-treated timbers, it carries a low risk of warping and twisting, and it will not splinter or overheat in the hot temperatures of a sauna. As a natural product, timber shows some colour variation between different packs and batches.
Profile
SHP is the standard timber profile for sauna bench boards: a rectangular section with radiused corners, usually R2, R3 or R4 (a 2 mm, 3 mm or 4 mm radius on each corner). The radius value describes the smoothness of the board edge, and these boards are finished at R3. The 28 mm thickness is important in preventing warping and twisting over time. Other timbers are available in our wider SHP bench board collection.
Quality & Wastage
Our thermo alder sauna timber is A-grade: durable, knot-free and with a low risk of splintering. We recommend a wastage allowance of 15% for these SHP bench boards, which also accounts for any risk of damage in transit. General sauna wood grading standards apply; grading rules and our interactive Bench Board Calculator are available on finnmarksauna.com, and our team is happy to advise if you are unsure how much you require.
Bench fabrication
These boards are well suited to a DIY bench build. Alternatively, our Sauna Bench Fabrication Service can create your ideal bench system for you.
Brand
Thermory, founded in Estonia in 1997, is the world's largest manufacturer of thermally modified wood. Its chemical-free, thermally modified timber is its signature product, alongside a wide selection of untreated sauna wood.
Ordering & Delivery
Timber orders travel on a palletised shipping service and may require a kerbside drop or handballing off the freight vehicle. Costs are calculated at checkout and differ between UK Mainland, Highland and Island postcodes. We normally ship lengths of up to 2400 mm; beyond that, shipping costs rise significantly. If we do not stock your required length but have a longer one available, our cutting service can cut it down for a small fee: you purchase the full length and the off-cut is added to the pallet. For longer lengths or the cutting service, call +44 (0)20 8050 2895 or email support@finnmarksauna.com.
