Description
The Monolith, designed by dSign Vertti Kivi & Co with IKI-Kiuas, is a designer heater in the truest sense: a brushed stainless steel column that puts the stones, not the steel, at the centre of the sauna. Its large stone mass (120 kg on the 6.9 and 9 kW models, 220 kg on the 13.8 kW) heats in roughly 45 to 75 minutes and rewards you with dense, humid, oxygen-rich steam. Three three-phase outputs are offered: 6.9 kW for 7 to 12 m³, 9 kW for 9 to 16 m³ and 13.8 kW for 15 to 25 m³. A compatible control unit is required and stones are sold separately. Each Monolith is handcrafted in Pieksämäki, Finland.

Use
Heat-up takes about 45 to 75 minutes depending on room size and ventilation. The recommended temperature for IKI stone pillars is 50 to 70°C; pouring water raises temperature and humidity, and you can direct it to different parts of the column to control both. Throw at most half a litre at a time and never when others are close to the heater. Check yearly that shifting stones have not exposed the heating elements.
Stones & water
Stones are sold separately. In communal or public saunas, IKI recommends ceramic Kerkes stones around the elements. Water quality matters: chlorinated water and seawater are forbidden, and the manual sets limits for humus, iron, manganese and calcium content.
Brand
IKI Kiuas pioneered open-structured sauna heaters with visible stones in a stainless steel mesh. Its heaters are handcrafted in Pieksämäki, Finland by craftsmen with over 40 years' experience welding black iron and stainless steel. Hand-welded heaters may show small tooling marks on the stainless rim.
