Description
STEP profile aspen cladding from Finnmark Sauna brings a crisp, angular rhythm to sauna walls and interior feature walls alike. The tongue and groove boards are 27 mm thick and 64 mm wide, with an effective width of 56 mm, and are sold in packs of four in 2100 mm and 2400 mm lengths. Broad grooves give the profile considerable depth, so light plays across the surface and casts shadows in the wells between the raised sections; fit it vertically to help a room feel wider, or horizontally to make it feel taller. Aspen is the lightest of the sauna timbers, ranging from a light brown to nearly white, with a uniform, straight grain, few to no knots and no weeping resin, and it combines well with darker timbers or other profiles for contrast.

Timber
Aspen is the lightest sauna wood we offer, with a uniform, straight grain and few to no knots. Its colour ranges from a light brown to nearly white, and it does not weep resin, one of the reasons for its popularity in home saunas. For a bolder look, aspen can be mixed with a darker timber. As a natural product, timber shows some colour variation between different packs and batches.
Profile
STEP is a decorative cladding profile with broad grooves and considerable depth. Its finely repeating pattern can be installed vertically to help a room feel wider, or horizontally to make it feel taller. On feature walls, the depth creates a striking texture that lighting can enhance, casting contrasting shadows in the wells between the raised sections. STEP can also be combined with other timber profiles to create contrast and a unique detail in the space.
Quality & Wastage
Our aspen sauna timber is A-grade: durable, knot-free and with a low risk of splintering. We recommend a wastage allowance of 15% for aspen cladding, which also allows for any damage that can occur in transit. General sauna wood grading standards apply. Our interactive Cladding Calculator on finnmarksauna.com can help you estimate quantities; contact us if you are unsure how much you need.
Installation & Care
The tongue and groove boards are straightforward to fit and suitable for DIY sauna projects as well as other interior finishes. An Installation and Maintenance Guide for our sauna wood cladding is available under the Downloads tab on this page.
Ordering & Delivery
Sauna timber ships on a palletised service due to its size, and delivery may involve a kerbside drop. Shipping costs vary with order size and quantity, and between UK Mainland, Highland and Island postcodes; they are calculated at checkout. Lengths beyond 2400 mm increase shipping costs significantly. If you need a shorter length than we stock, our cutting service can cut a longer board down for a small fee; you purchase the full length and the off-cut is added to the pallet. For longer lengths or the cutting service, contact our Customer Service Team on +44 (0) 20 8050 2895 or support@finnmarksauna.com.
