Description
This STP alder cladding is a refined tongue and groove board for sauna walls and ceilings, with narrow grooves and rounded front edges that give the finished surface a soft, even appearance. Grooves behind each panel allow condensed steam to run down and drain to the floor rather than sitting against the timber. Each board is 15 mm thick and 90 mm wide, with an effective width of 80 mm once fitted, and packs contain six boards in a choice of 2100 mm or 2400 mm lengths. Alder is a popular timber for traditional saunas, light brown with warm pink undertones, and it stays comfortable to the touch in high heat while resisting twisting and warping. Supplied by Standwood, whose durable, dimensionally stable profiles are made for sauna interiors.

Timber
Alder is a popular choice in traditional saunas thanks to its natural qualities and low risk of twisting and warping. It has a light brown colour with warm pink undertones, and a subtle scent that resembles freshly cut hay, which many find pleasant in the sauna. Alder does not overheat and has water-repellent properties, so it performs well in hot and humid environments. As a natural product, the timber shows some colour variation between packs and batches.
Profile
The STP profile offers an elegant wall surface with narrow gaps between each board, and its rounded front edges give a softer appearance than our Kallio or STS4 cladding. The grooves behind each panel allow condensed steam to run down and drain to the floor. Like all our cladding profiles, STP boards can be combined with other options to achieve your own look, and the boards are also suitable for interior finishes beyond the sauna.
Quality & Wastage
Our alder sauna timber is A-grade: durable, knot free and with a low risk of splintering. We recommend a wastage allowance of 15%, which also covers the small risk of damage in transit. Contact us if you are unsure how much you need for your sauna build.

Timber orders are shipped on a palletised service due to their size, and may require a kerbside drop. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout and vary between UK Mainland, Highland and Island postcodes. We usually ship lengths of up to 2400 mm; longer lengths cost significantly more to send. If we stock a longer board than you need, our cutting service can cut it to your required length for a small fee, with the off-cut added to the pallet.
