Description
Thermory's STS4 alder cladding dresses sauna walls and ceilings in slim, angular grooves, with the 4 mm gap between boards that gives the profile its name. Alder has long been favoured in traditional saunas: it carries a light brown colour with warm pink undertones, a subtle scent reminiscent of freshly cut hay, and a naturally low risk of twisting or warping. The timber does not overheat and repels water, so it stays comfortable in the hot, humid conditions of the sauna room. Each pack contains six A-grade boards, 15 mm thick and 90 mm wide with an 80 mm effective width, in a choice of 2100 mm or 2400 mm lengths. We recommend treating the wood with paraffin oil, which slightly deepens its colour.

Timber
Alder is a popular choice in traditional saunas thanks to its natural qualities and low risk of twisting and warping. It has a light brown colour with warm pink undertones and a subtle scent resembling freshly cut hay. Alder does not overheat and has water repellent properties, making it well suited to hot and humid environments.
Profile
The STS4 profile takes its name from the 4 mm gap between each board. Its slim, angular grooves suit modern saunas where a symmetrical, strong aesthetic is wanted, and the profile combines well with other wood profiles to create a distinctive interior.
Quality & wastage
Our alder sauna timber is A-grade: durable, knot-free and with a low risk of splintering. We recommend a wastage allowance of 15%, which also accounts for any risk of damage in transit. General sauna wood grading standards apply. As a natural product, timber shows some colour variation between packs and batches, and lifestyle images are representational: the final look varies with the width and placement of the cladding.
Installation & care
An Installation and Maintenance Guide is available in the Downloads section. The cladding is well suited to DIY installation, and we recommend treating the wood with paraffin oil to slightly deepen its colour.
